Prior to a renal artery ultrasound you will need to fast for at least 5 hours. No food, drink (except small sips of water to take medications), chewing gum or smoking.

You might want to consider wearing a loose and comfortable two-piece outfit. Your abdomen will need to be exposed for this procedure.

During renal artery ultrasound you will be asked to lie on your back, front and side.

The ultrasound transducer will be run over your abdomen and lower back.

Renal artery ultrasound usually takes about an hour.
