Services for Physiotherapists

Physiotherapists are eligible to directly refer patients for spine, pelvis and hip X-rays under Medicare. To make this process simple, Life Medical Imaging provides:

Medicare Benefits Schedule – Physiotherapy Imaging Items (Effective 1 July 2025)

Physiotherapists can refer eligible patients directly for certain diagnostic imaging services under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
These item numbers cover common musculoskeletal regions including the hip, pelvis, and spine.
Below is the current list of MBS item numbers for physiotherapists, as outlined in the schedule effective from 1 July 2025.

  • 57712 – Hip Joint
  • 57715 – Pelvic Girdle
  • 58100 – Spine cervical
  • 58103-Thoracic spine
  • 58106 – spine lumbosacral
  • 58109 – spine sacrococcygeal
  • 58112 – 2 region spine (of those mentioned above)
  • 58120 – Spine—4 regions, cervical, thoracic, lumbosacral and sacrococcygeal, if the service to which item 58120 or 58121 applies has not been performed on the same patient within the same calendar year
  • 58121 – Spine—3 examinations of the kind mentioned in items 58100, 58103, 58106 and 58109, if the service to which item 58120 or 58121 applies has not been performed on the same patient within the same calendar year
