Medicare Benefits Schedule: Podiatry Imaging (Effective 1 July 2025)

Podiatrists can refer eligible patients directly for specific diagnostic imaging services under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

These item numbers cover common regions and conditions related to the foot, ankle, and lower limb, helping podiatrists access essential imaging that supports timely diagnosis and treatment.

Below is the current list of MBS item numbers for podiatrists, as outlined in the schedule effective from 1 July 2025.

  • Ultrasound: Foot / ankle only — 55890 (ankle/hindfoot), 55894 (midfoot/forefoot), 55844 (mass/skin/subcutaneous foot/ankle)
  • Additional Ultrasound (NR) codes: 55818 (hip/groin), 55822 (paediatric hip), 55826 (buttock/thigh), 55830 (knee), 55834 (lower leg)
  • CT: Not eligible
  • DEXA: Not eligible

How to Refer

Referral forms are available to download via our website or through your practice management software. software. Patients can attend as a walk-in for X-rays or book via phone for combined X-ray + ultrasound appointments.
